Macaranga recurvata Gage. Trees up to ca. 30 m tall and 45 cm dbh, reproductive from 10 m tall and 15 cm dbh. Twigs solid to hollow (not ant inhabited), glabrous, glaucous or not. Stipules ovate, early-caducous to semi-persistent, erect, not surrounding the twigs completely, 10-37 mm long by 5-18 mm wide. Petioles glabrous, up to ca 32 cm long. Leaves alternate, peltate, ovate, 21-55 cm long by 13-44 cm wide, length/width-ratio 1.19-1.69; secondary veins 9-15, ending in the margin; leaf base broadly rounded, peltate margin length 3.5-10 cm; leaf margin with glands; leaf upper surface glabrous; leaf lower surface glabrous, glaucous, densely gland dotted. Staminate inflorescences branched; flowers clustered per bracteole; bracteoles with fimbriate margins. Pistillate inflorescences branched; fruits 9-10 mm wide, 2(-3)-locular, whole fruit covered with glands. Ecology: Collected up to ca. 500 m altitude. A relatively shade tolerant tree, mostly found in primary forest on disturbed sites (gaps) and in swampy places. Distribution: Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. In Borneo it has been collected in Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, Central- and East-Kalimantan.
